Ole Miss Football 2025
Aug 27, 25Compared to last year, the hype hasn’t been nearly as pronounced for this Ole Miss football team, yet this team is ranked in all the preseason polls. I took a look at the roster, just a glance, and I would say that over half of the players are transfers. Interesting times in college football for sure. It is has been interesting to watch it all unfold. I’ve been saying for several years that this was all going to happen, and it is a bit weird to feel like we are all-of-the-sudden in this new game in which the quarterbacks are getting paid millions, and players go to the school that gives them the best financial package. I don’t see how it is sustainable to require the pretense of the student-athlete any longer. I wonder how much longer that part of all this is going to continue. As of this writing, players still enroll in the colleges and ostensibly attend classes, but what is the actual point of that if the players are all millionaires? Think about it. College game day. The grove is packed with fans and food. The band does it’s pre-game grove concert, and all of the trappings that make college football what it is. Do the players have to actualy be students for it all to hold together? If not, in what sense, then, do those players represent Ole Miss?
I think Ole Miss has the potential to be better in 2025 than it was in 2024. A lot depends on the play of the new quarterback Austin Simmons, but everybody seems to think he’s going to be outstanding. With some improvement at the running back position, which was the achille’s heel of the 24 squad, Ole Miss can be dangerous.
