Ole Miss 45 Tulane 10 - Thoughts

Sep 22, 25

I missed the update after the Arkansas game, which the Rebels won 41-35 in a track meet style game. It could have lost this one, and in fact I got that feeling late the fourth quarter when Arkansas got the ball back after Ole Miss passed three straight incompletions to take almost no time off the clock, giving Arkansas the ball back with about four minutes to go. I even messaged my sister and told her we were about to lose. The Rebs caused a fumble, though, and recovered possession and ran out the clock from there.

Trinidad Chambliss started in place of Simmons in this game, and he looked dynamite, especially compared to Simmmons. His passing was precise, and his running ability was outstanding, giving the Rebels a full package at quarterback. Chambliss has a good deal more college football experience than Simmons, and it shows. He looks poised, and he has the full range of vision of the gridiron, which is Simmons’ most glaring weakness.

Against Tulane, the Rebels won in a fashion befitting this team, 45-10. Tulane was never in it. Chambliss was scanning the field and finding the open man, or otherwise finding no opening, tucking it and taking off. Tulane was never in this game, which is exactly what I was hoping to see.

LSU comes to town on Saturday ranked #4, the biggest game of the year, and the first big game of the season for the Rebels. It will have the best defense the Rebels have faced, and I think Chambliss is the obvious starter, though I imagine Kiffin will come out and say Simmons is the starter, if for no other reason than to get LSU to prepare for him, and then Chambliss will end up taking the majority of the snaps. Not sure how it will play out, but it is a real quarterback controversy for sure. Simmons got all the pre-season hype, but Chambliss gives us the best chance to win, I would think.

Go to Hell, LSU.

Hotty Toddy.
